Increase Workspace Energy

Embracing balance and harmony between earthly elements, vibrant colors, and intentional placement.

What is Feng Shui?

Feng Shui, (pronounced fung shway) is an ancient philosophy developed by the Chinese over 3,000 years ago. They observed how the combined qualities of Feng (meaning wind) and Shui (meaning water) determine the climate, which has historically determined food supply; impacting our lifestyle, health and energy.

This philosophy is focused on human life being connected to and flowing with the environment around it. It is used to design environments that enhance conditions for success in life by examining how the items and objects create a balance with nature.

Why embrace Feng Shui?

Feng Shui is all about being comfortable in our own spaces, including having a clear mind and maintaining an organized environment.

One of the main principles of Feng Shui is achieving happiness and harmony between an individual and their environment.

Happiness, as we all know, is not a destination but the result of the choices we make. We share these tips because we believe happy people make happy executives, and happy executives make better leaders.

The Bagua Map

The Feng Shui Bagua Map is an energy map that divides a space into nine areas representative of our life - family, career, creativity, etc.

There are colors, shapes, and earthly items associated with each area as determined by the Feng Shui principles of creating balance with nature and finding harmony between elements.

The Bagua can be used in any space, being laid over any floorpan (your house, a bedroom, an office) or surface (like a desk) to create harmony and desirable flow of energy. The Bagua below has been edited specifically for items likely to be placed on desks, though the placement of categories is the same for any application.

Applying the Bagua at your desk:

1. Identify 3 categories from the Bagua you would like to focus on for this season of your life.

2. Read the description of what types of items, colors and elements represent the areas you picked. Choose items that resonate with you.

3. To strengthen your presence in these areas, and increase the flow of energy of these areas in your everyday life, place the items that resonate with you in their respective positions.

Below is an example of a desk with items from each area represented.

Incorporating elements to our workspace with clear intention allows us to stay in touch with what is important to us, adding positive energy and purpose to our every day routine, no matter how busy we may get.

If you give this a try, take a photo of your desk and tag us on Instagram @evolvingbydesign! We'd love to hear how it's working out for you.
